How much NDIS behaviour support costs
From 1 July 2026, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) maximum price for specialist behaviour support is $252.99 an hour in most of Australia. It's $354.19 an hour in remote areas and $379.49 in very remote areas. Providers can charge less. It's paid from the capacity building part of your plan, and only a registered specialist behaviour support provider can deliver it.
What are the NDIS price limits for behaviour support in 2026-27?
The two main behaviour support items both have a national maximum of $252.99 an hour. Remote and very remote areas have higher maximums.

These prices come from the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) pricing schedule for 2026-27. Both items sit in a table headed Specialist Behavioural Intervention Support including Training in Behaviour Management Strategies.
Remote prices are 40% higher than the national price, and very remote prices are 50% higher. The NDIA uses the Modified Monash Model (MMM) to rate how remote a place is. Remote prices apply in MMM 6 areas and very remote prices in MMM 7 areas. Some isolated towns are also treated as remote.
What is a price limit?
It's the most the NDIA thinks is a fair and reasonable price for a support. Providers use it to set their prices, and they can charge less.
Older NDIS documents called these price limits. From 1 July 2026, the NDIA lists them in the NDIS pricing schedule as appropriate and reasonable maximum prices.
The price you pay is the one you agree with your provider, usually in a service agreement. If a provider wants to change the price in an existing agreement, they must talk with you first. You must agree before it changes.
Your plan has a set amount for behaviour support. The hourly price decides how many hours that money buys. So it's worth asking each provider for their hourly rate before you sign.
Registered providers only
However your plan is managed, you can only use behaviour support funding with a specialist behaviour support provider registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (NDIS Commission).

What can a practitioner charge for besides face-to-face time?
Work done away from you, telehealth, reports the NDIA asks for, late cancellations and travel each have their own support item. Most share the same hourly maximum.

Travel time is charged at up to half the hourly rate. The NDIA's pricing review for 2026-27 prices says providers can claim up to 30 minutes of travel time to and from each participant in MMM 1 to 3 areas, and up to 60 minutes in MMM 4 to 5 areas. In remote and very remote areas, providers can make specific travel arrangements with you.
The cancellation items have the same hourly maximum as a session. Your service agreement should say how much notice you need to give, and what you'll be charged if you cancel late.
What could behaviour support cost?
These are simple sums using the 2026-27 maximum prices. They're examples, not quotes, and your provider may charge less.

How many hours you need depends on your situation. Ask a provider for a written estimate of the hours for the assessment, the plan, training and reviews.
Which part of my NDIS plan pays for behaviour support?
Capacity building supports. The category name depends on which NDIA computer system made your plan.
- Plans made in the NDIA's newer computer system: the Behaviour Support category. It's a stated category, so the money can only be used within that category.
- Older plans: the Improved Relationships category.
In the support catalogue, both behaviour support items sit under these categories. If the money in your plan won't cover the hours you need, talk to the NDIA about changing your plan. Your practitioner can give you evidence about the type and amount of support you need.
Does using positivebehavioursupport.au change what I pay?
No. Our service is free for participants and families, and it doesn't change your price.
Providers pay us for introductions. They set their own prices within the NDIS maximums, and you agree the price with them directly. We're an independent service. We're not a provider, and we're not part of the NDIA or the NDIS Commission.
Questions people ask
Did behaviour support prices go up on 1 July 2026?
Yes. The national maximum for the main behaviour support items rose from $232.99 an hour in 2025-26 to $252.99 an hour in 2026-27. A provider must talk with you and get your agreement before changing prices in an existing service agreement.
Why does my invoice show a code ending in NF, PT or TH?
In the 2026-27 pricing schedule, each type of behaviour support time has its own item. NF is non-face-to-face work, PT is provider travel, TH is telehealth, RR is a report the NDIA asked for and CA is a cancellation.
Does telehealth cost less than a face-to-face session?
Not by default. The telehealth items have the same maximum as face-to-face sessions: $252.99 an hour at the national rate in 2026-27. Your provider may still charge less.
Can I use an unregistered practitioner to save money?
No. The NDIA can't fund behaviour support from providers who aren't registered with the NDIS Commission, or from practitioners the Commission hasn't approved. This applies however your plan is managed.
What are Intensive and Complex Behaviour Supports?
These are support worker items, not practitioner items. They're paid from core categories like Assistance with Daily Life, not your behaviour support funding. The 2026-27 weekday daytime maximum is $79.60 an hour at the national rate.
